Emoji - the smiling faces and other icons that pepper so much online speech - are constantly evolving. The nation of Finland has already contributed some - such as a sauna - that will appear on many devices later this year. Not content with that, the home of Tom of Finland is still proposing new additions to the range.
The new ToF emoji, which you can see above, has been created in recognition of same sex marriage, which will become legal in Finland on the 1st of March this year. Along with other Finland emojis, it can be downloaded from This is Finland.
BLUF - the Breeches and Leather Uniform Fanclub - is a worldwide leather club, and many of our members admire and even emulate the hyper-masculine images of Tom of Finland. The club launched its new website at the end of 2016, and I'm delighted to say that we've now added support for the new emoji, allowing members to include it in their profile and in messages they send to other members.
Members can include the emoji in messages and other text using the code : tomoffinland : without any spaces between the colons and the name of the emoji. However, as it's not a standard emoji, it will only appear correctly on the site, and not in BLUF apps at present, where the code will display instead.
