In April, we issued a statement regarding a dispute about the use of the name BLUF Berlin. We are now in a position to give an update.
On 22nd June Olaf Hartmannsgruber, our volunteer organiser in Berlin, received a legal letter requesting that he cease organising events in Berlin using the names "BLUF Berlin" or "BLUF." In addition, a demand for substantial legal fees was made.
This letter was sent on behalf of the former BLUF member who registered "BLUF Berlin" as a trademark. We dispute his right to the name, and to decide who is entitled to organise BLUF events in Berlin.
BLUF Ltd stands by our volunteers, and has retained the services of an experienced trademark lawyer to assist us.
We have lodged defence papers with the German courts, stating our position and documenting the facts.
On 11th July, lawyers acting for the trademark holder applied for a preliminary injunction, seeking to have our volunteer organised events stopped.
We are pleased to note that the request has not yet been granted and look forward to a decision or a full hearing in due course.
We thank the many members who have offered their financial support, to enable us to fight this unwarranted attack upon the club.
Nigel Whitfield, Director, BLUF Ltd
