It's like the Dutch version of national Pride. Every year since 1978 another town is gay capital ('roze stad') of the Netherlands for the whole year (www.haarlemrozestad.nl and www.rozezaterdagen.nl/Geschiedenis.php unfortunately only in Dutch).
